A foundation is a ticking-covered structure used to support a mattress or sleep surface. It may include box springs. A platform frame with a slatted deck can replace a separate box-spring. Every mattress does not have to ship with a box-spring. 1633.2(c): a mattress set is a mattress and foundation labeled for sale as a set, or a mattress labeled for sale without any foundation.
